Discussions are an excellent way to get your students "talking". The discussion can be set up simply with text as a prompt, or with embedded images, video or links to other pages.
Ivan Zeitlin, a 4th grade teacher at Shiloh Point Elementary in Forsyth County, Georgia, uses discussions in a variety of ways. Below is an example of how his students became engaged owners of their own learning in social studies. Discussions Forums are a snap to set up and allow for the students to take responsibility for their own learning quite easily. Note how the teacher sets the students up with his detailed prompt, and then lets the students take over from there.
